If you're already involved with Community Arts Vancouver, how?
Community Arts Activities, Artist, Volunteer
When have you created community through the arts?
For 3 years, every summer(and some long distance) I have been coordinating projects and events with an arts and music collective based out of Toronto called the Dupont Spadina Corner Collective(DCC). In Vancouver, I have organized and instructed the Preteen Artistic Adventures program at Kitsilano Neighbourhood House for two years and have spent last year facilitating workshops and creating a mural as the Artist Intern for the Artist in Communities program with the Vancouver Park Board.
Why are the community arts important?
Art provides a platform to express ones self, it allows people to interact with public space and form opinions on how public space should/could look and feel. Art inspires civic engagement, promotes the sharing of ideas and skills and provides the opportunity to hear the voices of people you might not otherwise have contact with in your everyday routine. Lastly, it allows people who do not view themselves as 'creative' to realize you do not have to be 'an artist' to make art or to make a difference in your community.`
What community arts events most interest you?
Promoting local artists, and working with other organizations
What are your hopes and dreams for community arts in Vancouver?
To inspire the city to fund more public art projects
If we meet you at an event, how will we recognize you?
Bright, nerdy, loud, boisterous, with pigtails and thick glasses.
